An Arts-A-Thon
Help Raise Money and Hope
for Children at the Border
Sponsored by:
Young People's Theatre Workshop
and support of The Players Club of Swarthmore

Lin Manuel Miranda, creator of Hamilton, sums up our feelings in these words:

"When senseless acts of tragedy remind us
That nothing here is promised, not one day....
We lived through times when hate and fear seemed stronger;
We rise and fall and light from dying embers, remembrances that hope and love last longer
And love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love cannot be killed or swept aside....
Now fill the world with music, love and pride."

What are we doing and when?

Date: July 27th, 2019 from 3:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. +

Place: The Players Club of Swarthmore, 611 Fairview Ave., Swarthmore

What: Raising money and awareness through the arts for the plight of the children on the border. YOU get the sponsors and YOU get to perform! Its an all day Arts-A-Thon!! (see below for details)

Why: The situation in the detention facilities and the tragedies occurring as immigrants have sought refuge in our country has transcended politics and become a heartbreaking humanitarian crisis. As we greet one another on the street or at the pool or in coffee shops, we speak of our frustration and helplessness in respect to this situation. This event is a chance to help, to express ourselves, and to give.

To whom are you donating?

RAICES:

(Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services)
Your support to RAICES helps them continue their mission to help separated families, detained families, unaccompanied minors, and others who are seeking asylum in the United States.

Together Rising:
"In a world where crises abound and heartbreak is in every community, people who want to help often don’t know where to turn. Together Rising is where to turn."

How are we raising money?
What should you perform?

Several ways:
1. Follow the Facebook links from our Facebook page or direct links from our webpage at yptw.org and donate to either RAICES (Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services) or Together Rising.
Link to RAICES at https://www.classy.org/team/239523

2. If you want to perform, continue to the Sign-up Section, fill in the google doc, and indicate the donation amount you have raised. This will provide you with a time slot. How much do you need to raise to perform? It would be great if you can raise $100. We think that people will be interested in helping. But just do what you can. So sign up to perform and ask people to come hear you. They can certainly donate on the spot!

1. A song. There will be a pianist around for the whole time. (fingers crossed...but don't expect a rehearsal!)
2. A song with your own accompaniment...guitar, kazoo, etc.
3. Read a poem, a monologue, an original essay, do a scene from a favorite play, an op-ed, keep it fairly clean.
4. A dance - we probably will not have a deep space on the stage but we will have the width of it.
5. A string quartet
6. Barbershop quartet
7. A capella group
8. A comedy routine
9. You get the idea!
Wait! I don't want to perform! How else can I help out?
No problem! Just make a donation!
Then take a moment and stop by The Players Club of Swarthmore to show your support for our performers through out the day!! Our performers need an audience!! Bring your friends....your family....your neighbors!!
July 27th from 3:30pm -10:00pm!!
